ServSafe Manager
All restaurants in Connecticut are required to have a certified food protection manager on staff. The ServSafe Manager course will certify you as a Certified Food Protection Manager, formerly known as the QFO. The CRA offers two different options for certification: In-person classes or Online Classes with Take Exam at Home. Both options meet the state requirement for certification.
ServSafe Manager In-Person Classes
The ServSafe Manager in-person training is conducted throughout Connecticut in a one day, 8-hour session in a professional, conference atmosphere. Our instructors have an excellent record of success, with over 90% of learners passing the ServSafe Manager exam on their first attempt.

ServSafe Manager Online

ServSafe Food Handler Online
ServSafe Food Handler is for an employee seeking their Food Handler Card or an operation seeking a compliant solution for employees.
This comprehensive solution that delivers consistent food safety training to employees. This ensures the same food safety principles are delivered each and every time. This certificate is valid for three years.
ServSafe Allergen Online
ServSafe Allergen is a comprehensive solution that delivers consistent allergens training for people who prepare food.
ServSafe Allergen is an online, interactive course drives home critical information your employees and managers need in order to accommodate guests with food allergies and respond to emergencies should they occur. This course is appropriate for anyone who prepares food including back of the house employees, managers and even culinary students. This certificate is valid for three years.
The ServSafe program is developed by the National Restaurant Association with the help of foodservice industry experts who face the same risks you do every day.
The Connecticut Restaurant Association offers the following ServSafe Food Safety products:
- ServSafe Manager (in-person and online options available)
- ServSafe Food Handler
- ServSafe Allergen
Every foodservice operation is required by the State of Connecticut to designate a Person in Charge (PIC) who is certified as a Certified Food Protection manager (formerly known as the QFO), whose responsibilities not only include food safety, but staff training as well. There must be a certified person in charge on site during all shifts. You can view the Food Safety Regulations here.
- The ServSafe Manager Certification verifies that the designated person-in-charge has sufficient food safety knowledge to protect the public from foodborne illness.
- The ServSafe Food Handler Certificate verifies basic food safety knowledge and is for individuals in food handler employee-level positions.
